The ancient battlefield of Waterloo is situated near Waterloo Town, 18 kilometers south of Brussels at the end of the Sowani Forest. On the evening of June 18, 1815, the Duke of Wellington commanded the British and Dutch allied forces and the Prussian army, which besieged and eventually defeated Napoleon, thus ending the legendary figure's history of traversing Europe. In 1826, people piled up a hill at the site where Prince William was injured. On the top of the hill, a huge iron lion, 4.5 meters long, 4.45 meters high and weighing 28 tons, was placed. It is said that the lion was made of guns abandoned by Napoleon's army on the battlefield. Along the 226 steep steps to the top of the mountain, Waterloo ancient battlefield can be seen at a glance, Brussels also can be seen. Although Napoleon was the loser of the Waterloo War, in people's minds, he was definitely a greater hero than the winner. Every five years, the war scenes of that year will be repeated in the ancient battlefield, with more than 2,000 local people participating in the performance.
