Bethune was born in Gravenhutt, Ontario, Canada, about two hours north of Toronto. In front of the exhibition hall is a bronze statue of a woodcutter who operated on the wounded and worked as a woodcutter when he was a young man. The wooden plank house on the second floor behind is his former residence of his youth. Most of the visitors are mainland Chinese, and few foreigners show that Chinese people are deeply grateful to Bethune.
