The temple was built by Queen Silla Shande in 634 and was famous at the time, with many famous monks and painters writing books and painting Buddhas here; Master Yuanxiao and Master Cizang also lived here. Buddhist paintings and Buddha statues made have been lost after many wars, and now the remaining in the temple is the model masonry tower of the national treasure No. 30, the tower of the temple. The tower system polished the stones into bricks and piled them up. It was originally nine floors and now only three floors exist, providing very precious information for understanding the history of the development of Silla stone tower culture.
