The cathedral of Salerno, the main church in the center of the southern Italian city of Salerno, was built by the Normans in the 11th century to commemorate San Matteo, where the remains of the saints are said to remain buried beneath the main altar in the arched cellar. Inside the semicircle niches on the right hand side, the Crusader Chapel houses the weapons of the Crusaders. There is a bell tower next to the church, and the bell is downstairs with an Arabic-style promenade.
