Fossar de les Moreres is a memorial plaza that was built over a cemetery for those who were killed during the siege of Barcelona in 1714. The monument that arches over the plaza features an "eternal" flame.

This place is the best place to go before a party. Near paseig del born and santa maria del mar, you can sit here during the beginning of the night and see so much crazy things because of people :) Like it!

Build in honor of the dead during the siege of Barcelona, there you can see an eternal flame. Build just next to "Catedral del Mar". Impossible to pass by.

Spain, Barcelona... The Tomb of Morreys. We've been here, next to Notre Dame's Church. Because I don't know Spanish history, I don't know its meaning!

The Fossar de les Moreres is a memorial plaza adjacent to the basilica of Santa María del Mar. The plaza was built over a cemetery where defenders of the city were buried following the Siege of Barcelona at the end of the War of the Spanish Succession in 1714. On September 11th of that year the Bourbon King ruling from Madrid massacred many Catalan Patriots. An eternal flame burns on top of this Monument and 9/11 is still a sobering anniversary on this National Day of Catalonia. During the rest of the year, this silent corner of El Born sits quietly and waits for someone like me to stop and take notice. It's not biggest or brightest thing to see in Barcelona, but it certainly one of the more simple and emblematic places that Gayle and I witnessed.
