Guangji Monastery Review

Guangji Temple, commonly known as Xida Temple, is located in the West Street of Baodi City. Guangji Temple sits north and south, covering an area of about 3,000 square meters. The famous architect Mr. Liang Sicheng came to Baodi to survey Guangji Temple in the 21st year of the Republic of China (1932 AD), and recorded in detail the temples such as Tianwangmen, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, East and West Rooms and Three Temples.

Guangji Temple is located in Baodi District, Tianjin, is a Buddhist holy place in Tianjin and even in the whole country, and is famous with Dule Temple in Jixian County. Guangji Temple has a special status in the history of Chinese architecture, but it has not been completely preserved to this day, but was destroyed on the eve of Tianjin's liberation. According to the data, Baodi Guangji Temple is a Liao Dynasty building, only later than the Dule Temple in Jixian County. The age is about 1,000 years old, and it was prepared in 1005 AD and officially completed in 1025. The existing building was rebuilt in 2007.

Although Guangji Temple is only rebuilt for decades, its history of the temple can be traced back to Liao Sheng Zongtong and 23 years of Yuan Yanzhang master opening the mountain, it has been thousands of years. After being built, it became a Buddhist holy place in Tianjin, and was famous for Dule Temple. Mr. Liang Sicheng, the father of modern Chinese architecture, visited Guangji Temple in 1932 and called it “luxury happiness” because he saw the three temples of Liao Dynasty architecture. But this is the ancient temple that was demolished on the eve of liberation, and it was demolished along with the ancient city wall and moat that have stood for hundreds of years. Many comments on the Internet have complained about the rebuilt Guangji Temple, saying that it is a fake cultural relics.
