It's a magnificent mosque, but the prayer hall is a rare experience that I can't get into.

Into the prayer hall, women were forbidden from visiting the mosque by their friends from other places, but they still felt magnificent.

The history of the mosque dates back to the 11th century. Nowadays, there are few visitors to the mosque except the local believers. Once an Orthodox church, it was converted into a mosque by the Ottomans. Today, it is one of the most important preserved Byzantine religious buildings in Constantinople. At the Gul Mosque, you can also overlook the Golden Cape Bay.

As it is common is Istanbul's history to turn many churches into mosques this is again a similar case of a church (St. Theodosia) turning into a mosque. It actually still remains in the shape of a cross when viewed from the top. The Gul Mosque which translates into the Rose mosque was decorated with lots of flowers, as the legend recounts, when the Ottoman entered the city of Istanbul in the honor of Theodosia.
