When you need a break from the craziness of Hanoi's Old Quarter head northwest to West Lake. The large lake is surrounded by nice apartment buildings, restaurants with views, and lots of outdoor activities.

Not to be confused with Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake is one of two lakes located in northern Hanoi. The lake is surrounded by nice restaurants and late night bars. It is the biggest lake in Hanoi and offers boat rides with beer and food in the evenings.

Interestingly, this place attracts locals as well as tourists - you can see the locals either strolling along the path or just simply chatted by the lake
