Mount Kinabalu is also called "Chinese Widow Mountain" by the local people. There is a moving story behind the name. Legend has it that in ancient times, a young Chinese businessman came to North Borneo, married a beautiful Kadashan girl, and lived a happy life after marriage. Later, the Chinese businessman, missing his relatives in his hometown, went north and returned to his hometown. Before leaving, he promised his wife reunion in the future, but there was no news after he left. Day after day, year after year, the girl looked forward to her husband's return at the seaside. At last, she climbed the peak of Shenshan Mountain and looked at the sails coming from the south of the sea. Finally, she watched her husband become a stone and kept watch on the top of the mountain forever. The locals read her true feelings and called the mountain "Chinese Widow Mountain".
