The Monaroya Observatory is a place with a very few people. The road up is a bit steep, but the scenery is really good. According to our local guide, it will be more beautiful at night.

Turn in from the main road, drive 45 minutes on the mountain road to this Mauna Loa Lookout (not the Observatory, that is another road). The more the road is going up, the worse the situation, the first is still a flat but narrow two-way lane, to the back is pitted (if it is not an off-road vehicle is quite injured) and only one car is so wide, meet the opposite direction of the car needs to pull over and let go or it will hit. After opening up, I found that the view was very general, and I could barely see the smoke in the Kilauea crater in the distance. To be honest, what is special about this place is that you can see a large area of silver sword grass along a small walk along the marked path. Silver Sword Grass is one of the most tenacious plants on the planet, mainly growing near the high-altitude crater in Hawaii, which is dry and hot. In general, I personally feel that this attraction is a little pitted. If time is limited, it is better to visit the volcano national park next to it.
