Originally a 19th-century marketplace, the iconic Mercat del Born has been through its fair share of transformations over the years – enduring umpteen rounds of restorations, neglect, and more recently, excavations that revealed ruins from Barcelona’s medieval age. The beautiful wrought iron structure is now home to a brand new cultural centre, showcasing three centuries of the city’s history. It’s a fascinating place to wander around, with ever-changing exhibitions, and you’ll be able to view the subterranean ruins free of charge.
