Hercules Port is Monaco's only deep-water port. It has been in use since ancient times. The modern port was built in 1926 and made major improvements in the 1970s. It covers nearly 40 acres, enough to provide anchorage for 700 ships. The port is located in the La Condamine district. All ships over 30 metres in length require port pilots. The depths of the port range from 7 metres in standard berths to 40 metres in outer piers and cruise terminals.
