Monumento India Catalina Review

Indiana Catalina (India Catalina), an indigenous woman on the Atlantic coast of Colombia, accompanied Pedro de Heredia (Pedro de Heredia) and served as an interpreter and intermediary during the Spanish conquest of Colombia. Katrina was kidnapped in 1509 by the Spanish conqueror Diego de Nigusa (Diego de Nicuesa), the daughter of a local sheikh, who was sent to Santo Domingo, where she studied Spanish and became a Catholic. Pedro then asked her to act as a translator for Native Americans. The Katarina monument in India was carved from Eladio Gil Zambrana and was presented to the public in 1974.
