Chelyabinsk Oblast is located on the southern slope of Ural and outside Ural. The south is connected to the Oblast of Orenburg, the south-west, west and northwest are adjacent to the Republic of Bashkortostan, the north is adjacent to the Oblast of Sverdlovsk, the north-east and east is bordered by the Oblast of Kurgan, and the east and south-east is connected to Kazakhstan. The main rivers in the territory are the Ural River (upstream), the Mias River. There are many lakes in the state (Lake Uvilide, Lake Turgayak), and several reservoirs.
