We've been to Badaling before. The regiment we followed at that time and the magnificence of the Great Wall were all drowned out. Too many people were crowded. This proper decision can no longer follow the regiment, we must climb the Great Wall by ourselves, so we chose Mutianyu. It takes about two hours to drive from downtown. It's not very far, but it's recommended to start early in the morning. To get to the foot of the Great Wall, you have to take a ferry (bus) to the cableway or cable car. There are 20 observation towers in Mutianyu. There are two ways to go up and down the mountain. Tower 6 can go up and slide down the cableway. Tower 14 can go down the cableway. These two ways are 120 fast/round trip (single 100) with special fear of heights. I suggest traveling by cable car, or traveling by cable car with relatively poor physical strength. We went up from Cableway 6. Super Beauty is quiet, but it's a little soft in the calves, so we can start climbing. If we are not physically fit, we can go down the 14 towers by cable car (if we have to pay twice). We have been up to the 20 towers and think it's the highest peak there. But the most exciting thing is just the beginning. There is a big stone blocking the way up in the tallest tower and it is written that it is not open to the outside world. But many people climb over the wall and continue to climb up. We also went up. After that, the Great Wall keeps its original appearance very well. The stones are the stones of the original Great Wall, not the ones that were renovated later. After climbing up to a top, there were many trees. Many tourists left wishes on the trees. No one cleaned and maintained the trees, so garbage could be seen everywhere. But the original appearance of the Great Wall could not be ignored. It's even more surprising to walk in. Only narrow paths can be taken and trees and grass are everywhere. In a moment, people forget that we are on the Great Wall. The more backward we go, the more rugged and uneven the rocks are, the more dangerous it is. In some places, it's only about 50 cm wide. One side is a tree, the other side has no shelter, like a cliff. In fact, as long as you are willing to climb down, you will see the most primitive features of the Great Wall. Down the hill, we chose the cable car, because it was too tired, so we got down at 14 towers. If you want to see the shape of the original Great Wall, you must not miss it. What's more, there are fewer people, the higher the number, the fewer people! After all, we are going to appreciate the magnificence of the Great Wall instead of seeing the crowds of people. That's the real meaning of climbing the Great Wall.
