Nankai University was founded by Yan Xiu and Zhang Boxuan, who adhere to the concept of education and national salvation, and was founded in 1919. In 1937, the campus was blown up by the Japanese army invading China and moved south. The private Nankai University and Peking University and Tsinghua University merged in Changsha to form a national Changsha temporary university. In 1938, it was renamed the National Southwest United University. In 1946, it was re-established and changed to a national university. After the establishment of New China, it has undergone the adjustment of the colleges and departments of higher learning and has become a key national university with equal emphasis on literature and science; since the reform and opening up, Tianjin Foreign Trade College and China Tourism Management Cadre College have been merged.
