The Vienna Museum of Natural History is located on the south-west side of the Hofburg Palace, near the Ring Avenue. The twin buildings, opposite the Museum of Art History, are situated on both sides of Maria & Tracia Square and look exactly the same. The Vienna Museum of Natural History is one of the ten largest museums of natural history in the world. The collection was started by Emperor Franz I, the husband of Queen Maria Tracia, who is famous for his collection of prehistoric animal and plant specimens, as well as cultural relics unearthed during the Halsta period, Venus statues 25,000 years ago, Maria Tracia's jewelry bouquet, etc.
