The English Channel, also known as the Strait of Ramance, is a strait that divides Britain from continental Europe in France and connects the Atlantic and North Seas. The strait is 560 km (350 miles) long and the narrowest part is the Strait of Dover, only 34 km (21 miles) wide. Dover, England, is across the Channel from Calais, France.
