Oamaru's Victorian Precinct Review

The town is rich in limestone, known as Omalu stone, and many of the buildings of Danidine are also obtained from this stone, such as Danidine station, the University of Otago building and so on. Of course, the old buildings in the town mostly use such stones, especially the street Harbour St., which is full of hand-made works to dig treasures.

Omaru should belong to a place with historical accumulation. Although the history of development here is not long, the locals can pay special attention to retaining various buildings with specific historical significance, so the whole city looks older and more historical. After seeing these buildings, visitors can be inspired to learn more about the local history.

The old town is still full of a heavy sense of history. The exterior walls are made of volcanic black basalt and white limestone in Omalu. Walking in the old streets of Omalu, feeling the slow pace of the streets!

Omaru is 88 km north of Danidine, a major town and port in the southeast of New Zealand’s South Island, home to New Zealand’s best preserved commercial historic buildings and blue-eyed penguins. Once a lively gold rush town in Victoria, this town is now only quiet and Victorian limestone buildings. The pace of life here is slow, as can be seen from the town's representative transportation, the bicycles with front wheels and large rear wheels.

Located about 90 kilometres north of Daniden, Omaru was once a thriving port, but now it is a quiet town with a large number of 19th-century English buildings. There is only one main street, Thames Street, from the bronze statue to the church of StLukesAnglican, which is the center of the town. The Victorian-style buildings are spread across the street with lush road trees and the environment is very nostalgic, if you come in the fall season, it will be more romantic. Walk along CoquetSt to the beach and you will see a lovely chapel, as well as the busy railway and station of the past. The hotel we stayed in is in the center of the town, and it is also an ancient building with a historical style, with a feeling of crossing time and space. Not far from the town is the penguin habitat. Maybe only by maintaining this peaceful living environment can such an interesting ecological environment be protected.

Omaru has two different species of penguins, blue penguins and yellow-eyed penguins. The Blue Penguin Conservation Center in Omaru is a colony of blue penguins. Yellow-eyed penguins can be seen at a special viewing point in Omaru's Bushy Beach.
