Dating back to 1883, the "Orto Botanico" was in origin the Papal Botanical Garden known as "Simpliciarius Pontificius Vaticanu". It is located on the slopes of the Janiculum Hill, not far from "La Scalea di Trastevere" apartment. Walking in the park, you will be surprised to find yourself lost in a quiet and pleasant place surrounded by all sorts of plants. Today, the "Orto Botanico" is maintained by the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and hosts more than 3,000 botanical species. The Japanese garden alone, with its wonderful bamboo groves, is surely worth a visit.
