Palermo is not near, but the subway at Tribunales (2 blocks away) goes to Plaza Italia which is the heart of Palermo. Palermo is a huge area of the city, but it's mostly known for its trendy designer shops which have great appeal for urban hipsters and high-end eateries. But Palermo also has beautiful gardens which are well worth a visit.
