The Arms Square is located opposite the Port Avenue Avenida del Puerto, adjacent to the Arms Square Plaza deArmas, and was built in the early 1990s. There is a monastery called San Francisco in the square that is the origin of the name of the square. It was originally surrounded by walls, and was the earliest customs office in Havana because it was adjacent to the Spanish port of loading and unloading goods, immigrants, and slave trade.
