On July 9, 1989, I arrived in Beijing by train from Baotou at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th noon, and then transferred to Chengde Station at 5:00 p.m. Take bus No. 5 and transfer to No. 6 at the Fire Temple. Get off at the Dafo Temple (Puning Temple) and check in at the 52831 Army Hostel. On July 14, I visited Puning Temple at noon. Puning Temple is a national 5A tourist attraction, a national key cultural relic protection unit and world cultural heritage. It is located at No. 1 Puning Road, Chengde City, Hebei Province. Founded in the reign of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty, it is a temple combining Han and Tibet. The main Buddha statue of Puning Temple, Thousand-Handed Thousand-Eye Guanyin Bodhisattva, is 27.21 meters high. It is the largest golden lacquer wood carving Thousand-Handed Thousand-Eye Guanyin Bodhisattva in the world and has been listed in the Guinness World Records. I have visited the Temple of Heavenly Kings, the Hall of Daxiong and the Pavilion of Mahayana. In front of the Buddha, I saw many tourists burning incense and kowtowing. Lamas stood by and chanted sutras to the bells.
