Hana Highway 3: Red Beach There are two red beaches in the world, one in Santorini, Greece, and the other here. The beach is relatively narrow and isolated, and it is definitely not an exaggeration to call it the hardest beach to reach. We touched the rocks, stepped on the sandstone, and climbed along the edge of the mountain to reach the beach. All these factors are said to make it an ideal place for people to sunbathe naked, but we don't see [laughing] science all of a sudden [smiling] the rust color of the red sand beach indicating that the sand contains high iron oxide, which is eroded by an inland cinder cone. With every wave of great impact brought by the Pacific Ocean, rust-colored sand presents a thicker reddish-brown under the influence of seawater.
