After World War II, it became a library of the State University of BiH. On August 25-26, 1992, the library collection of nearly 90 was burned down during the Bosnian War, and the building became one of the symbols of Sarajevo's siege. The building was rebuilt in 1996 and officially opened to the public on May 9, 2014, which coincided with European Day and Victory Day for Fascism.
