Shantang Street was built in Baoli period of Tang Dynasty. Bai Juyi was appointed to be the assassin in Suzhou in 825 AD. Shortly after taking office, he went to Huqiu in a sedan chair and saw that the nearby river was blocked and the waterway was impassable. When he returned to the government, he immediately consulted the officials concerned and decided to build a road around the mountain of Huqiu and began to dig a mountain and pond river. It starts in the east near Yanmen Dusang Bridge and goes West to Huqiu Wangshan Bridge. It is about 3600 meters long, so it is commonly known as "Qili Shantang to Huqiu". The night view of Qili Shantang Street is more beautiful.
