Sun Moon Lake is located in Shuishe Village, Yuchi Township, Nantou County, north of Alishan Mountain, Taiwan Province of China, and south of the high mountains. It was formerly known as Shuishalian, Longhu, Shuishe Great Lake, Zhutan, Shuangtan, also known as Shuilishe. The sea level of Sun Moon Lake is 748 meters above sea level, and the normal area is 7.93㎞2 (10 ㎞2). The maximum water depth is 27 meters and the circumference of the lake is about 37 kilometers. It is one of the most freshwater lakes in Taiwan, China. It is bounded by Guanghua Island, the shape of the northern half lake is like a round day, and the shape of the southern half lake is like a curved moon. In 2009, Sun Moon Lake was selected as the World Records Association "the largest natural freshwater lake in Taiwan, China", and was selected as one of the eight major scenery in Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty, known as "a cave in the sky overseas"[1].
