The Topkapa Palace, also known as the Old Palace, is located on the Continental side of the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul, on the seagull mountain known as Cape Saraquilio, overlooking the sea. The Palace was built in 1459 and has been the official residence of the Ottoman Sultan for more than 400 years. Today, the museum is open to visitors. Visitors can visit the palace's bedrooms and living rooms and various treasures of jewelry, most famously the world's second-largest ruby weighing more than 200 carats.
