Wanghailou Church Review

＂ Wanghailou Church ＂ Old name: Catholic Great Hall, Victory Church of Our Lady, located at No. 292 Lion Forest Street, Hebei District, Tianjin, named for its former site Wanghailou. ＂ Wanghailou Church ＂ was built by the French Catholic Church in the eight years of Tongzhi (1869), and is the first church built by Catholicism after it was introduced to Tianjin. In 1870, it was burned by the people of Tianjin in the Tianjin teaching case. In Guangxu 23 (1897), the church used the Qing government's compensation to rebuild the original site of the ruins and built a corner building. In 1900, it was burned again during the Boxer Movement. The existing church building was reconstructed in the original form of Guangxu 29 (1903) with ＂ chopsticks. This European Gothic building has become a landmark in Tianjin's modern history. The church was damaged in the 1976 earthquake and repaired in 1983.

Wanghailou Church (Tianjin Wanghailou Church, formerly known as the Virgin Church) is located on the north side of the west end of Lion Forest Street, Hebei District, Tianjin, diagonally opposite the Lion Forest Bridge, named for its former site Wanghailou. The church was built at the end of 1869, with a European Gothic architectural style, and is the first church built after the Catholicism entered Tianjin. It is now the third batch of key cultural relics protection units in the country, and the second batch of Chinese 20th century architectural heritage. Unfortunately, it was not opened to the outside world during the epidemic.

Wanghailou Church is located at No. 292 Lion Forest Street, Hebei District, Tianjin, facing the Haihe River, close to the Lion Forest Bridge, formerly known as the Virgin Church of Our Lady, built in 1869, in European Gothic style. The current church was rebuilt on the original site in 1903, and has been restored in recent years. It is 47 meters long, 15 meters wide and 22 meters high. There are three flat-topped towers on the front, which are shaped like mountain pen frames. The church is a key protection unit of cultural relics in the country and is open to the public.

It is worth visiting, with historical educational significance, more than 100 years of history.

Personally think that there are two Christian churches in Tianjin worth visiting, one is the Western Kai Church, and the other is the Wanghai Building. This style is different from the Western Kai Church. It is said to be destroyed by the Boxer Group and later repaired. Wanghai Building is located next to the Lion Forest Bridge on Haihe East Road, Hebei District, Tianjin. It was originally called the Virgin Church of Our Lady. It was built by the French Catholic Church in the eight years of Qing Tongzhi (1869 AD). The church was burned by the people during the anti-foreign religious struggle in June 1870. The church was rebuilt in 1897. In the Boxer Movement in 1900, the church was burned for the second time and restored for the second time in 1904. In 1988, it was listed as a key cultural relics protection unit in China.
