Wat Mahathat is located in the center of Ayutuye, Thailand's oldest capital city. It is surrounded by ditches. It was built by Buddhist temples from the Indian King until it was completed in the reign of King Li Tai in 1345. It belongs to Royal temples. There are 209 pagodas and 10 monasteries in the Central Plains of the temple, but most of them are only foundation. The temple has a central tower, surrounded by small pagodas with niches and temple-style pagodas. The central pagoda is built of laterite and then painted with plaster. The lotus bud-shaped top pagoda is called Sukhotai style, which is different from other countries'pagodas.
