What people are saying:

The Vocas Column was built in 608 and was erected in front of the Roman Forum to commemorate the Byzantine King Vocas. It is also the last architectural part of the Roman Forum. The column is 13.6 meters high and stands on a cube base of milky white marble. The square brick foundation was invisible. It was not until the 19th century AD that the ground of the Roman Forum was cleaned up to reveal the construction level of the earlier era. The original statue above the column has been destroyed. Now it stands in isolation in the square, close to the Arc de Triomphe of Severus, becoming a landmark of the Roman Forum.
