The Old Town of Salzburg is the only urban area in the world that contains both medieval and Baroque buildings. The old town on the left starts from the banks of the Salz River and includes the center of the Nonntal, the Festungsberg hill and the Salzburg Castle, the entire Mönchsberg hill (to the right of the Salzburg Castle). Most of Salzburg's attractions are concentrated in this area, which was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
