a great place to see art! i saw the monet show and it was amazing but their collection are also really good.
Came for the Monet Early Years exhibit and was blown away by the collection but not the crowds. Everyone and their mamas were at the Monet section. Fortunately, the other sections were relatively quiet. Small museum so less than half a day - maybe 2 hours to walk the whole thing. Get there before 11a on a weekend to get parking (people were crowding my car to fight for the space at 11a). Great views and overall nice museum. If you are going to visit at least 2 times with a partner - get the membership. It will pay for itself in 2 visits (4 entries).
Great, classic museum with beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin Headlands.
Compact museum with spectacular views of city and Ocean
After the Musee D'Orsay in Paris, my favorite museum in the world. Like the d'Orsay - it is an example of cherry picking the best of the best. The museum building is a proportionally reduced replica of the Louvre Museum in Paris - and even the glass pyramid has been added - adding great viewing space to the building. If you had to choose one or two of the most beautiful examples of all the art our civilization has produced - to put on a small space ship for posterity - you could simply empty this place. And a bonus for tourist out front - the best view of the Golden Gate Bridge for photos
A great museum, an 10 mins bus ride or 25 mins walk.
