At the edge of the city it's just plain stunning to find a vast expanse of sand and dunes, and then of course the seemingly infinite ocean stretching to the literal ends of the earth. And above the domed sky. Walk for miles on the hard sand near the water and think about what you've done, and what will come next. Shed a tear for a lost love, watch dogs leap. Dress warmly, bring water, don't expect to find a bathroom, and do beware of the powerful dumping waves.
Out out to the west you go and leave the bustle of San Francisco and hit the salty ocean air, the cold chilly pacific air and fog smack you. Wake you. Bring you back to life! Yes Ocean Beach is a haven and long strip of rustic coast for surfers, nature lovers, dog walkers, and all those who need to breath and get some sea air. Part of visiting San Fran!
Even if it might not be a hot summer day, it's always a gerat experience going to the beach. The beach is so wide you can actually have a car race just by the water where the tide comes in and out leaving long stretches of free space. Sunset is the best time of the day to be there and breathe the salty freshness of the Ocean.
Located at the outskirts of the city. It is predominately used as a surf beach for locals- the waves get very large and are extremely heavy (be weary of big days if you are a novice- intermediate). When its a beautiful and warm day- its a good place to go and hangout while catching some rays.
The SF great highway at the beach is truly great! Great for stroll, great for run, great for taking in the sunset by the beach. The water here might not be the warmest, in fact quite cold, but the sense of peace and serenity that it could provide, that's soul warming.
