Castillo del Morro

The name "Moro Castle" derives from the terrain in which the castle is located, and "Morro" means "coastal cliffs" in Spanish, so "Moro Castle" is actually "castle on the coast cliffs". There are three castles in the world, all designed by the same architect. The official name of this Morro castle in Santiago is San Pedro de la Rocamorro castle "Castillo del Morro SAN PEDRO DE LA ROCA", because the castle is so far complete and well preserved, on December 7, 1977, UNESCO awarded the title of "human cultural heritage". According to historical records, the initiative to build the castle was proposed by Pedro de la Rocca (Pedro de la Roca y Borja), the then Spanish Governor in Santiago, and the castle was later named after him.
