Yalong Bay Rose Valley

more of a tourist trap than anything - expansive grounds and beautiful in parts. could be a peaceful few hours away from the beach were it not interrupted by loud tour carts honking and driving walkers off the road. only go if you’re in Yalong bay and don’t want to commit to a longer excursion....or are intent on taking selfies with carefully staged props.

I just visited here with my wife, and we were extremely disappointed. The guide and the signs here all had incorrect information. They were teaching incorrect information to the guests. For example, there are three main categories of Roses in Chinese. First, 月季（yueji). Second, 玫瑰（meigui). Third, 蔷薇 (qiangwei). Each of these roses have a specific meaning.For example, “yueji” is essentially Modern Roses, “qiangwei” is species or wild roses, and “meigui” is specifically rugosa. Rugosa is a species rose, but it has its own category because of its traditional history in China and Asia in general.Our guide, and most of the signs, incorrectly called all the roses here “meigui” even though almost every one is “yueji”. When we asked, he said they’re the same. Let me give an example, are toy poodles and wolves the same? They might have the same ancestors, but no one would say they are the same thing.Ultimately, what makes me sad is that this is supposed to be a proud example of roses and rose culture here in China, but they failed at the most simple aspect—what is a rose. For this reason, I can only give them one star.
