About Seda

Serthar is a county in Sichuan province in the northeast of Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Serthar means 'golden horse' in Tibetan and is named after a golden horse that was excavated in the area. The county is home to the world-famous Larung Gar Buddhist Institute, which is situated in a picturesque valley 30 km from the main town. The valley has a large population of monkeys. Serthar is also known for its dense concentration of Tibetan Buddhist temples which belong to the Nyingma school of Buddhism. In addition to the Larung Gar Buddhist Institute, Serthar also has a number of other historical attractions including Jixiang Buddhist Library, Leqiong Temple and Sela Temple.

Seda Larong Wuming Buddhist Academy is a large Buddhist institute. It has thousands of wooden cabins scattered on the hillside. There are many paths in the Buddhist Academy. You can take a stroll on any of them. On the slope of the southwestern corner of the prayer tower, you can overlook the entire academy. You can also take photos of the entire academy there. If you are curious about the celestial burial ceremony, you can take a ride at the academy to watch it. The scene is quite shocking. However, please make sure you respect the local ethnic customs and take no photos.

Seda celestial burial platform is built between the Buddhist College and Seda County. It is built on a relatively flat half-mountain slope. The iron fence is used to form a flat land like a basketball court. That is the place where the celestial burial is carried out. The celestial burial is to feed the body of the deceased to the eagle, and the eagle flies into the sky after eating. The Tibetans believe that the deceased has ascended to heaven. Usually, after a person dies for a few days, the lama will be asked to go to the funeral.

The Seda Jinma Grassland is situated in the upper reaches of the Dadu River, the Yalong River and the Jinsha River, the principal rivers of the Yangtze River. It makes up the famous natural pasture together with the Zhaxika Grassland of the Ganzi Tibetan Area. Heading to the north along the Sequ River, along the banks there are grassy gullies with deep grasses and wildflowers, and rolling ridges that stretch to the east and west. There are also black yak and white flocks that fly like notes, and big white clouds that float in the blue sky forming a beautiful image.
