About Seda: Serthar is a county in Sichuan province in the northeast of Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Serthar means 'golden horse' in Tibetan and is named after a golden horse that was excavated in the area. The county is home to the world-famous Larung Gar Buddhist Institute, which is situated in a picturesque valley 30 km from the main town. The valley has a large population of monkeys. Serthar is also known for its dense concentration of Tibetan Buddhist temples which belong to the Nyingma school of Buddhism. In addition to the Larung Gar Buddhist Institute, Serthar also has a number of other historical attractions including Jixiang Buddhist Library, Leqiong Temple and Sela Temple.
