Cathedral of St. Mary is one of the oldest Anglican churches in Malaysia and is a KL landmark. Built in 1894 by the British era long before our Merdeka.
peaceful lovely church
St Mary’s Cathedral is one of the interesting buildings off Merdeka Square, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. It’s a colonial protestant church, British in style, with an attractive bright white exterior and a pleasant little churchyard to the rear. It’s interesting to see the cathedral in context with the English-style cricket pavilion nearby, as well as the Mughal and modern Islamic architecture further afield.
St. Mary’s Basilica is located on the side of Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur’s city centre. Unlike traditional churches with majestic buildings and towering spires, this church is not tall and looks unremarkable, but it has a very long history. It is also one of the earliest churches in Kuala Lumpur.
This church is next to Merdeka Square and is an iconic building in Kuala Lumpur. This is an English church. The last time I came here was 20 years ago. I am very happy to see that the church is thriving-not only the building, but also the activities and services. Visitors are welcome here, if you have service activities worth participating in in this area. They have traditional services as well as modern services. This is the largest and oldest church in Kuala Lumpur. The architect of this church built in the 19th century was a Norman. The congregation is very enthusiastic, the choir is also very good, and there is mid-week service. There are also some very interesting monuments and pulpits.
Very minimal decoration but nice peaceful place which shows colonial aspects close to Merdeka Square.
The Church seems quite modern from the outside but the interior is classic even though quite bare with not a lot of decoration.
This is located just next to Merdeka Square. We reached there just before dusk. Didn't have much time to explore.we saw it from outside. Location, ambience in the evening gives a very relaxed atmosphe...
Was expecting something quite grand and ornate, but could have perhaps walked by and not even noticed it, had we not been looking for it.
If you have the time this is a lovely Cathedral to visit. Unfortunately we chose a time when a service was going on but I was still able to appreciate how lovely this place was. Given time I would...
