Baiyun Temple is home to the Shanghai Taoist Association and the Taoist Culture Research Center. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Jiading Taoist priest Xu Zhicheng built the Leizu Hall on Dongxing Bridge. In the eighth year of Guangxu (1882 AD), the Leizu Hall was moved to the present site.
