Shangri-La is located in the northwestern part of Yunnan in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It is located at the confluence of the three provinces of Sichuan, Yunnan and Tibet. Shangri-La was formerly known as Zhongdian County. It was renamed due to its similarity to the heavenly location described in James Hilton's 1933 novel "Lost Horizon". In Tibetan, Shangri-la means “Shang Mountain pass”. It is a pure land that perfectly preserves the area’s natural ecology and traditional culture. The grasslands surrounded by snow-capped mountains are full of bright sunshine and fresh air. There are also clear and tranquil lakes as well as magnificent temples and friendly Tibetans.
rwwishartThis is an amazing place and somewhere I’d recommend everyone visiting Shangri-La visit. The bus runs from near the old town in the morning and you arriving back by maybe 7pm. The walking parts of the national park are some of the most spectacular places you will see in Yunnan!
rwwishartTry to book your hotel inside the old town. This is the best part of the city proper. It’s better to come outside the peak tourist season. We went in late November and it was great. The nights got a bit cold but there was lots of sunshine during the day and far fewer people. Wandering the temple complex on the hill takes about an hour.
_We***84Baishuitai Scenic Area was closed from 2020.11.1 to 2021.4.30. In fact, the road has been repaired from No. 10.25. In order to get a glimpse of Baishuitai, I can only take the East Ring Road. For more than ten hours back and forth, the cars are flying up and down. Baishuitai is worth ~ The suet jade inlaid with sapphires hidden in the mountains and forests is like a paradise on earth and is called the fairyland. It is the origin of Dongba culture. Every year on the twenty-eighth day of the lunar calendar, the Naxi people will hold a grand sacrificial ceremony here. I really want to participate [naughty] Along the way from the hotel to Baishuitai, I met many people from the Naxi people who came to pray for blessings. , Very friendly, and handed us a branch of wild apples ~ two in the afternoon from Tiger Leaping Gorge to Baishuitai, the road is too difficult to walk until eight thirty in the evening, perfect to miss the sky under the sunset, I had to live in Sanba Township One night, I went up the mountain at 9:30 the next morning. Although the sky was also photographed, the shadows were unclear due to the direct sunlight. It was not as perfect as the evening image, and it was also very beautiful. The locals called it the spring. Shenquan is the origin of Baishuitai. The locals worship the gods and pray for blessings. There are two elderly guards at the Shenquan. They can choose to burn incense. The elderly will pray for you in Naxi language. Baishuitai is about 2600+ meters above sea level, and the temperature difference between day and night is large, noon It is very hot and very exposed to strong ultraviolet rays, so you must do sunscreen. The scenery is so beautiful and the words are poor. After all, we have to see the magic of nature by ourselves. We reluctantly go down the mountain when the phone is turned off when the phone is powered off. In short, Baishuitai is great. I hope it will continue to be such a small crowd and watch it along the way. I lost some cigarette butts in the water, hoping to strengthen the management of the scenic spot and not let such precious landforms be destroyed.
_GG***10Tiger Leaping Gorge is closed at the moment, it will be reopen in May/June 2021. I was in the area in December 2020 and couldn't do the walk as the road was closed. The road works will take a few more months. I will have to visit again.
Shangri-La old town! Beautiful architecture there. It was very quiet due to pandemic and 70% shops are closed during Chinese New Year, but some shops were still opened. You can enjoy traditional food.
Roof of the world where life start to open up to infinite possibilities
The reputation of this hotel chain proceeds itself. Everything is excellent; excellent staffs and amenities. We stayed at many different hotels within this trip, some places may have more beautiful architect than Shangri-La but we love this hotel the most. Okay fine, it’s because of the food. Yes, I love food! I love eating food and I’m a sweet tooth guilty.

Balagezong is a relatively new sight in Shangri-La. We were not sure if it’s worth going but turned out it became the highlight of the trip. Gorgeous scenery plus glass bottom viewing platform make the experience unforgettable.
Looking for a great place for a fall hike? I was blown away by Balagezong National Park near Shangri-La in Yunnan Province. It’s simply spectacular and best enjoyed in the late fall after tourist season. The number of guests is far lower and everything much nicer that way. It takes a solid day to visit. #mynovgetaway
There’s plenty to enjoy in Shangri-La, but one of the best things is the historic Old Town. We spent just about all of our time here wandering the cobblestone streets and visiting the many shops and restaurants. If you can, book your hotel stay in the Old Town. That way you can enjoy things at night.
Balagezong National Park is a phenomenal place in Northern #yunnan Province. If you’re staying in nearby Shangri-La, it’s totally worth it to take a day and visit Balagezong. You’ll spend a fair bit of time on the bus, but there are several spots where you get out and walk. The scenery is fantastic!
no electricity, no Wi-Fi, but I don't mind... I'm reading books with candles, when can see them gorge through the window...
