Shanshan

Shanshan County is under the administration of Turpan City in Xinjiang. The county is located in the southern foothills of the eastern part of the Tian Shan, along the eastern side of the Turpan Basin. The county features three different kinds of natural environments that change with the height above sea level from the north to the south. These are the Tianshan Scenic Area, the Flaming Mountains Scenic Area, and the Kumtag Desert Scenic Area. Shanshan County has a rich western region atmosphere. Most of the real Flaming Mountains from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West are in this county.
