Nantou Ancient Town

Not bad for a few hours, plenty of eateries inside, although it’s not what one expects, remarkably not as “ancient!”. Nice to wander about and good to go on a week day or non-holiday to avoid crowds. Vintage stores and lots of art galleries. Inside also some history and halls dedicated to historical figures.

Great place for sightseeing especially through the old streets it’s a great vibe. Wouldn’t recommend for a whole day though I’d say you’ll get through it all in like an hour or an hour and a half at the most.

Nantou Ancient City includes archway, Nanchengmen, Xin'an County, Xin'an Prison, Maritime Defence Office, Dongguan Assembly Hall, Guandi Temple, Wentianxiang Temple, Opium Tobacco Hall, Receiving Officer Hall, Juxiu Building, Yili Pawnshop, Taomi Gongqianzhuang and more than ten humanistic and historical landscapes. Since the establishment of Dongguan County in Xianhe six years (331), it has a history of nearly 1700 years.[2][4] is the seat of Bao'an County Government before the establishment of Shenzhen Special Zone.[3][5] is known as the "root of Shenzhen and Hong Kong history and culture", "the source of Guangdong and Hong Kong and Macao", and is the origin of Shenzhen city. Nantou Ancient City bears witness to the "migration and return" of Shenzhen Center.[6] It is the administrative center, coastal defense fortress, maritime traffic and foreign trade distribution center in the coastal areas of Lingnan.[4] The main street of Nantou Ancient City is based on the architectural style of Lingnan Guangfu.

Shenzhen is a relatively new city, but there are also some hidden germs of ancient culture. One if them is Nantou Ancient Town or Nantou Ancient City. It is pretty much interesting to take a look on the image of this region before it became what we know today.
