A hidden modern-era mansion, the Gu family residence
The Gu family residence is located in Qigan Village, Zhoupu Town, Pudong, Shanghai, and was built during the Daoguang period (around 1830), taking over a decade to complete. The mansion has a total of 28 rooms, covering more than 2 acres of land. The Gu family residence features a main hall with five rooms, a front hall with five rooms, two wing rooms on each side, and a square courtyard in the middle. Corridors connect all sides, with secret passages between the front hall and the wing rooms, and between the rear hall and the wing rooms, allowing passage for people within the residence. There are also covered rooms on the east and west sides, with long north-south corridors. Both ends of the corridors are fitted with reliable wooden doors, making it one of the better-preserved Qing Dynasty residential houses in the Pudong New Area.
Transportation guide: Take the Pudong 99 bus or the Nanxin special line to Qigan Village station, and walk more than 400 meters to arrive.
