Rudolfo's little osteria is great for lunch, you can enjoy local cured meets, cheese served with bread and olive oil. They will match local wine for you or get spritz if you are not too fussy. We suggest you try one of each of the top right hand menu selections, they are sliced bread with assortment of toppings!
Not for us are the production-line restaurants with huge menus, disinterested waiters and anonymous chefs. It’s sometimes hard to find what we prefer, but somehow, we often manage to discover a small family-run establishment with home-cooked food. We instinctively knew that ‘Osteria da Trombicche’ was our kind of place and we were not disappointed. In fact, the selection of home-cooked meals was impressive and our food was delightful. Such a simple thing as Bruschete dressed with oil & salt was delicious, as was our other antipasti of Crostone with pancetta & pecorino. The little pork Polpetti with sage were a delight as was the Salsicce cooked with onions in Chianti wine. We were offered the traditional Tuscan dessert of Vin Xanto served with Cantuccini, the crunchy almond biscotti that you use to soak up the wine. The whole lot, with wine and water, cost just €35 for two, and we loved the dessert so much that we went to a shop along the street and bought more wine & biscuits to take home with us. This little treasure of a ‘bistro’ is already popular, so don’t overcrowd them – I would hate it to change!
Da Trombicche never fails to impress me! It has great traditional Tuscan food, along with friendly staff! Every semester we take a group of college students here while visiting Siena and they always say it was one of their favorite meals. They serve beautiful meat and cheese platters. Don't miss their Ribolita soup and trippa! Buon appetito!
... This is rustic. Ribollita (a traditional thick bean soup), panzanella (salad with tomatoes, raw onion, basil and marinated bread crumbs), lasagna pesto, potato frittata - and Chianti tapped from the barrel. They boast that they do not serve capuccino or pizza. All good, and cheap. You may want to walk up a few of the local hills afterwards, to be sure you can get into your clothes tomorrow.
The best thing about the food is the service. The waiter is very sure of the distance and the intimacy, and always comes when needed.
