Singapore has an area called Kampong Glam. There is a very famous Mosque, Malaysian Cultural Museum and a colorful street here. In this community, you will run into a lot of Malaysian and some Arabic folks. Not only are buildings in Kampong Glam colored with different colors on the outer walls, even the doors, windows and hallway poles are decked out according to the owner’s preferences. The biggest advantage about these buildings is that they come with hallways and you can run it to shield yourself against the sun and rain. Kampong Glam has a lot of unique handicrafts shops, selling all kinds of Muslim clothing and accessories. This includes the gowns, scarves, carpets and lighting fixtures. Here you can find some really unique and classic Nyonya costumes. The inner alleys will lead you to a number of bourgeois area, where you can find many specialty food stalls, restaurants, cafes and bars. Lots of foreigners love coming here to have a break. In some areas you can see many artistic graffiti, and here they are really fun and rich in content. Many are highly symbolic in many ways.
