The presidential palace is called La Moneda Palace, which means currency in Spanish. Before the Chilean colonial rule in early 19th century, it was once a coinage factory, so the La Moneda Palace is still an important cultural relic site. On the Constitution Square outside the North Gate of the Presidential Palace, tall bronze statues of Allende stand. The La Moneda Palace is generally open to visitors free of charge, with the exception of major state events; visitors can admire this white colonial-style building in any courtyard, or at 80 East Gate - Morand Street ( Morande 80) President Allende who died in the 1973 military coup.
