As the most French-speaking French church, the Gothic building of the Virgin Cathedral, covered with dark pink ornately carved Vosges sandstone, is the most shocking first Gothic church. Passing through the crowded alleys, looking up at the church with his head up, it is not an exaggeration to describe the church in Hugos words, "Gathering a huge and slim in an amazing building." The buildings around the church should not be underestimated. They are very popular. For example, the black and white wooden rib house in the upper left corner of the picture is said to be the oldest pharmacy in France. The first floor is made entirely of stone, and the branches and snakes are carved on the corridor. The upper half-timbered building began in 1567, and the age of the sandstone column is still clearly identifiable. The medieval builders continue to decorate the exterior contours of the church with elongated stone poles. The cathedral is a 142-meter-high spire, and there is only one platform on the other side. It should have been a symmetrical spire. It was not built because of the limited financial resources at that time. Now it has become its characteristic. On top of the tower, it overlooks the whole of Strasbourg.
