Shilu Street

The "Stone Road" in Suzhou, China, is a downtown area of the old town with a history of more than 1500 years. It is a commercial district that is crowded with tourists and local elderly people because it is close to historical tourist spots such as "Kimen" and "Shantang Street". On April 14th (June 1st, 2023), I heard that there is a custom like a festival called "gá shén xiān" unique to Suzhou, so I went to Shiji. "Rolling" is a dialect of Suzhou, meaning "people push each other, crowded". On April 14th of the lunar calendar, Lu Junyang (Lu Dongbin), one of the eight Taoist senjin, came down to the lower world every year on that day and saw the world in the crowd in the form of beggars and peddlers. In other words, everyone who meets that day may be his incarnation, so everyone rushed to the immortal mausoleum, and the businessmen came to do business by taking advantage of it. That's why it's a festival. It seems that it is a unique custom of Suzhou that cannot be seen in other areas, and I thought it was very interesting. A lot of people literally shopped and crowded! This is a recommended place for those who want to enjoy the local atmosphere.

Suzhou Shilu Commercial Street is a famous commercial street in China, located in Gusu District, Suzhou City. Between 1906 and 1911, Sheng Xuanhuai built a gravel road outside Suzhou's Anmen Square, from Shangtang Street to the south of the Duseng Bridge through the mouth of the fish pier and the mouth of the Rongfang to the main road (Yichang Fumenqian fork), which is convenient for family cars and horses to the Shengfu in front of the Tianku in the Anmen and Shengjia outside the Anmen. The private gardens are named Shilu. Since then, Shilu has become one of the components of the "three roads and one streets" (main road, cross road, stone road and Shangtang street) in the commercial area outside the gate of the late Qing Dynasty and early Minzhu.

Shilu is a commercial street in the northwest of the ancient city of Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, adjacent to Shantang Street, and also the common name of the nearby business district. It is synonymous with the downtown area outside the gate, known as "Centenary Stone Road". There are many shops on both sides of the stone road. Shopping snacks are very convenient. There are still a lot of people here.

I often went to Shilu when I was studying in Suzhou. I felt very good at the time, and now I think about it. Compared with Shantang Street, Shilu feels more modern.

When I arrived in Suzhou, it was one of the business districts that was famous with Guanqian Street. Now it seems that it is not very powerful.
