In the ancient town of Zhensze, experience the charm of the Jiangnan water town
Visit Zhensze to explore the quaint scenery of the ancient town, and feel the rich historical and cultural atmosphere and the strong festive mood!
Walking along Baota Street, you will find two national cultural heritage sites, the Shijian Hall and the Ciyun Temple, at either end.
🌟 Shijian Hall
The ancestral property of the Xu family, a prominent family in Zhensze, was built in the third year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1864). Facing south with its back to the north, it is surrounded by water on three sides, with the Ditang Canal to the south, the Xieqiao River to the west, and the Ouhu River to the north. It integrates a river port, inn, shops, streets, halls, inner quarters, gardens, and servant quarters, creating a residence that includes a street. This grand residence reflects the characteristics of the late Qing Dynasty's merchant gentry era and local features.
🌟 Ciyun Temple
Located on Baota Street in Zhensze Town, this brick and wood eaves pagoda-style tower has withstood the test of time and still stands elegantly. The tower's exterior is hexagonal with five levels, consisting of a corridor, tower walls, and a core.
During the Spring Festival, it's hard to find a seat in the riverside teahouses, and having tea and meals is a unique scene. Paired with the light pink Dingsheng cake, which is soft and fragrant with a sweet bean paste filling, it symbolizes good luck for the New Year. Also, don't miss the black bean curd, glossy and black, salty and sweet, the more you chew, the tastier it gets, another must-try local delicacy of Zhensze.
'Zhensze Ancient Town'
📍1333 Zhenxin South Road, Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province
🚘 Take the Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway to the Shanghai-Suzhou-Zhejiang-Anhui Expressway towards Zhensze, Qidu Road exit (about a two-hour drive)
Compared with the famous Nanxun Ancient Town, Zhenze Ancient Town is not so famous, but it is quiet and leisure, the commercial atmosphere is not so strong, the price is not expensive, the tea is delicious, the black beans are delicious, and the dishes in the Lanlan Tea House are delicious. Very worth a visit. Shijiantang really recommend to see, really good, it can be said that I have seen so many ancient buildings one of the best.
Out of the habit of self-driving tours in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, I chose this ordinary ancient town of Jiangnan. There are few people and clean. Walking around the river to see the east view. The paid attractions are quite good for a family of three to charter a place and you can take a tour. Visiting the small town outside the scenic spot, quiet and peaceful, the canal flows slowly, and the old age is not bad. The small wine shop bought a bottle of Suzhou Bridge rice wine, mellow and sweet, and Jiangnan is very good.
In the off-season, there are not many people, free tickets and parking fees, like it! It's good to meet a peacock! The ancient town is by the canal, there are bridges and temples. There are not many places to eat on the old street. There is a noodle shop that is good and the price is not cheap, but the Soviet-style red noodle soup is very authentic and tastes good. There are many places to drink tea on both sides of the river.
The off-season is a bit depressed, and I don't want to go to the boat dock! The ancient town actually does not need to buy tickets. The buildings and exhibition halls inside are similar. There are snacks on the street. Children eat sugar paintings, Suzhou specialty pastries, etc. ~ and there are ~ selling sauce meat on the roadside. You can take some back to try it!
Suzhou niche ancient town, few people and beautiful scenery, it is worth going once.
